What are University Extension Units?
|
| The University of California, Irvine, Extension in partnership
with the Los Angeles County Office of Education, is offering this
opportunity to complete a 9-unit University
Extension course
to participants of the After School Programs in Region XI (ASP!RE)
staff development workshops. UCI Extension Units are "quarter"
units of university level academic credit. Nine "quarter" units
are usually equivalent to six "semester" units. Students
intending to transfer UC Irvine Extension course credits for a degree
at another college
or university should verify acceptance of the course for credit with
that insitution. |

Why is this Course Being Offered?
|
| The Los Angeles County Office of Education and the
University of California, Irvine Extension are committed to supporting
people who are working in the
field of school-age care and after school programs helping children
and youth learn and develop into healthy productive adults. Enrolling
in this UCI Extension course maximizes the learning that you as a workshop
participant achieve through the completion of the follow-up assignment.
Each assignment requires that you reflect on the workshop content and
apply it to your program's continuous improvement. Offering this course
assists programs in their efforts to support staff in their professional
development. Providing opportunities for after school personnel to
pursue a career path contributes to the professionalization of the
